STEVE BURNIKELL

Steve started DJing, like we all do, at a local pub called 'The Inn Place' (which it wasn't!!) as their resident DJ in 1988. Saturday was always private functions playing anything from Pop to Rock, Chart to Motown.Friday was open format but THAT was where Steve found the love and passion of Funk and Soul. But being 1988 this was also the birth of House Music and Acid House too. Fridays become jam-packed where he played chart, but as it filled up week by week Steve played anthemic House and Acid House bangers that no one had heard before!! That was such a special time in music that everyone refers back to, Chicago House and The Summer of Love etc.

In 1992 Steve was asked if he wanted to DJ in Malia, Crete, the party town! In the Marabou Bar on Beach Road. Steve DJ'd there from April to mid August and had a blast playing some of the best House anthems ever in one of the best years for House music.

Steve was asked back again in 1994, this time for a full season from April till the end of September. It was absolutely mind blowing playing to House music lovers people from across Europe, UK, Germany, Holland, Austria etc.

Steve came back to the UK in 1994 and was resident at Tojos Bar in Stanley for the next 3 years and then actually stopped DJing as he had to choose either a full time job or DJing, which was only weekend work. So drifted away from music and DJing for 20 years!!

In 2015 he returned to DJing being a resident DJ at Hidden in Sunderland for 2 years playing Classic Funk-Soul Disco and Northern Soul and also learning digital DJing and playing on Pioneer CDJs.

In 2016 Steve turned to his other passion, live radio, where he joined Spark107 FM in Sunderland and started his very own specialist radio show called 'Funk Soul Brother' playing Funk Soul Disco and Old Skool RnB, which he STILL does today, 8 years strong!!

Then in 2020 the founder of this amazing brand, Forever 54, Mike Lane, came on Steve's show for a chat. They chatted further and Steve happily agreed to join his brand.

Now Steve is a VERY proud member of this amazing DJ brand and resident DJ at all 'Pleased to Meet You' bars in Morpeth, Tynemouth and Newcastle along with Gunners Tavern, and some appearances at The Palm Sunderland and spots in Durham and South & North Sheilds to.
