JAYCIE'S STORY
Jaycie was named after the stage show Jesus Christ Superstar so his parents called him JC Superstar. Jaycee was born in Cyprus, then lived in Germany before moving back to the UK when he was 8 years old.
Growing Jaycie's dad was a dj so the house was always full of music, but he also used to take Jaycie with him to gigs, he help hid Dad set up, then stand with him behind the decks while he played until Jaycie crashed out on a couple of chairs. This showed Jaycie how to entertain a crowd and gave him a love for all kinds of music
When Jaycie was 17 he got his first gig in Darlington, using two cd players from home and no mixer, just a little switch box to flip from one player to the other. It was a rough place and Jaycie played a lot of Motown and Northern Soul.
The next couple of years Jaycie mainly worked doing mobiles, weddings etc learning how to control and entertain a crowd and how the flow of a night should go.
Jaycie also got a residency in a local club and bar in Catterick where he became good friends with one of the other DJs named Sinbad. He introduced Jaycie to mixing and he instantly knew that was the direction he wanted to take his djing.
Around this time Jaycie moved to Middlesbrough to attend University. He bought himself an old pair of Soundlab DLP1's and a terrible two channel mixer (for £70) and started practicing every single day for at least 3 hours a day.
For the next year or two Jaycie put on trance nights in various locations around the region including Staxx in Catterick, Club Amadeus in Northallerton and Atomic in Darlington.
After a trip to Ibiza in 1999 Jaycie discovered funky house and over night stopped playing trance.
After that he played all over the North East for the next 10 years bringing house and funk to the masses.
After not quite getting the break Jaycie was hoping for he stopped djing for a few years to concentrate on his career as a firefighter and spent time with his family.
Then around 2015 Jaycie rediscovered his love of house music and started putting on nights and recording mixes again. Now Jacyie's sound has become a mixture of old school funk, classic tracks, great vocal house and nu disco.
Jaycie currently resident for Forever 54 and during the pandemic did a couple of guest spots for DJ Spen and Quantize records.
DJs who inspire Jaycie start with his dad as he made him want to dj in the first place, through the years people like Seb Fontaine and Eric Morillo have inspired him to be the best he can be. More recently Dave Lee and Dimitri from Paris have given Jaycie a new impetus to create cool nights accessible to all.
